Islamic Business Ethics Statement

Grounded in the Quran, Sunnah, and Guidance from Ahlus Sunnah Scholars

Introduction

This Islamic Business Ethics Statement is founded upon the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, as understood by Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah (the People of the Sunnah and the Community). It serves as a comprehensive framework for conducting business in accordance with Islamic principles, drawing from the wisdom of classical and contemporary scholars who adhere to the methodology of the Salaf as-Salih (the Pious Predecessors).

"O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts."
— Quran 5:1

All business activities undertaken must align with the Shariah (Islamic law) and reflect the character and conduct exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who was known as Al-Amin (the Trustworthy) even before his prophethood.

Core Principles of Islamic Business Ethics

1. Tawhid (Monotheism and Divine Consciousness)

Foundation

All business activities are conducted with the consciousness that Allah is the ultimate Provider (Ar-Razzaq) and Owner of all wealth. Every transaction is an act of worship when done with proper intention (niyyah) and in accordance with Shariah.

Imam Ibn Taymiyyah (661-728 AH)
"The foundation of all righteous deeds is that they should be sincerely for Allah alone and in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
Majmu' al-Fatawa

2. Halal (Lawful) Earnings

Commitment to Lawful Income

We are committed to earning through halal (permissible) means only, avoiding all forms of haram (forbidden) income including:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَأْكُلُوا أَمْوَالَكُم بَيْنَكُم بِالْبَاطِلِ إِلَّا أَن تَكُونَ تِجَارَةً عَن تَرَاضٍ مِّنكُمْ
"O you who have believed, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual consent."
— Quran 4:29
Imam An-Nawawi (631-676 AH)
"Earning a livelihood through halal means is an obligation after the obligations [of faith]. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Seeking halal earnings is a duty after the [obligatory] duties.'"
Riyad as-Salihin

3. Amanah (Trustworthiness)

Sacred Trust

Business is a sacred trust (amanah). We conduct all transactions with complete honesty, transparency, and integrity. Deception, fraud, and betrayal of trust are strictly prohibited.

"Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due."
— Quran 4:58
Imam Ibn Kathir (700-774 AH)
"This verse includes all types of trusts that are given to people, whether they concern the rights of Allah or the rights of His servants. It commands Muslims to fulfill these trusts and discharge them properly to those who are entitled to them."
Tafsir Ibn Kathir

4. Adl (Justice) and Ihsan (Excellence)

Fair Dealing

Justice in all business dealings is mandatory. Beyond mere justice, we strive for ihsan (excellence and doing good), treating customers, employees, suppliers, and competitors with fairness, compassion, and generosity.

"Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct [ihsan]."
— Quran 16:90
Imam As-Sa'di (1307-1376 AH)
"Justice is to give everyone their due rights. Ihsan is to go beyond what is obligatory and do more good. In transactions, this means fulfilling contracts with excellence and treating people better than they treat you."
Tafsir As-Sa'di

5. Social Responsibility and Service to the Ummah

Community Benefit

Business is not merely for personal gain but must benefit the broader Muslim community (Ummah) and society at large. We are committed to:

وَافْعَلُوا الْخَيْرَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
"And do good that you may succeed."
— Quran 22:77
Sheikh Muhammad ibn Salih Al-'Uthaymin (1925-2001 CE)
"The Muslim is responsible for his wealth: from where he earned it and how he spent it. His earnings should benefit not only himself but also his family and the Muslim community."
Fatawa Nur 'ala ad-Darb

Practical Applications in Business

Transparency and Disclosure

Following the example of the Prophet ﷺ who said, "The truthful and trustworthy merchant will be with the prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs" (Tirmidhi), we commit to:

Imam Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani (773-852 AH)
"The merchant must inform the buyer of any defect in the goods, whether asked or not. Concealing defects is a form of deception which the Prophet ﷺ prohibited."
Fath al-Bari

Fair Pricing and Weights

We ensure just pricing without exploitation, price manipulation, or artificial scarcity. We give full measure and weight, avoiding any form of cheating.

"Woe to those who give less [than due], who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss."
— Quran 83:1-3

Treatment of Employees

Employees are treated with dignity and respect, in accordance with Islamic teachings:

Sheikh Abdul-Aziz ibn Baz (1910-1999 CE)
"The employer must pay the worker his due wage promptly and not delay it. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Give the worker his wages before his sweat dries.' This is from justice and fair dealing which Islam commands."
Majmu' Fatawa Ibn Baz

Environmental Stewardship

As vicegerents (khalifah) of Allah on earth, we are responsible for protecting the environment and natural resources, avoiding waste and destruction.

"And cause not corruption upon the earth after its reformation."
— Quran 7:56
Imam Ibn Taymiyyah (661-728 AH)
"Allah has forbidden wastefulness and extravagance. The Muslim is commanded to use Allah's bounties with gratitude and moderation, not wasting or destroying what Allah has provided."
Majmu' al-Fatawa

Prohibited Business Practices

The following practices are strictly forbidden:

Imam Ibn Qudamah (541-620 AH)
"These prohibitions in trade are established to protect people from harm and injustice. The Muslim merchant must avoid all of them, seeking only what is halal and pure, even if it means less profit."
Al-Mughni

Our Commitment

By the permission and guidance of Allah, we commit to conducting all business activities in accordance with these Islamic principles. We seek Allah's pleasure in our work and acknowledge that true success (falah) comes only through adherence to His commands and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ.

We regularly consult with qualified scholars of Ahlus Sunnah to ensure our business practices remain in compliance with the Shariah, and we seek continuous improvement in implementing these ethical standards.

"And say, 'Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so will] His Messenger and the believers.'"
— Quran 9:105

— Quran 28:77

May Allah accept our efforts and grant us success in this world and the Hereafter.
